최아희는 추상성과 감각의 경계를 넘나들며 자신만의 시각 언어를 구축해온 시각예술가입니다. 일본 효고현에서 재일교포 3세로 태어난 그는 정규 미술 교육을 받지 않았지만, 스케이트보드를 타며 경험한 거리 문화와 자연에 대한 감각적 체험을 바탕으로 회화, 조각, 설치 등 다양한 매체에서 유기적이고 리듬감 있는 작업을 전개해왔습니다.

그의 대표적인 작업 언어인 'AHHI 패턴'은 7개의 셀(cell)로 이루어진 곡선, 점, 선의 유기적 구조로 구성되며, 지난 15년간 끊임없는 변주를 통해 캔버스를 넘어 스케이트보드, 신발, 가구, 패션 등 일상의 오브제로 확장되었습니다. 이 패턴은 무의식과 감정의 흐름을 추상화하여, 보는 이로 하여금 정서적 공감과 몰입을 유도합니다.

로스앤젤레스에서의 체류와 미국 서부 국립공원에서 받은 자연의 압도적 감동은 그의 색채와 구성에 강한 영향을 주었으며, 이러한 감각적 경험은 도시의 질서와 자연의 자유로움이 공존하는 독창적 시각 세계로 이어졌습니다. 그는 드로잉 없이 직접 마커로 선을 긋고 색을 채우는 방식으로, 즉흥성과 집중의 긴장감을 작품에 담아냅니다.

Ahhi Choi is a visual artist who explores the boundaries between abstraction and sensation, crafting her own unique visual language. Born in Hyogo, Japan, as a third-generation Korean-Japanese, she did not receive formal art education. Instead, her artistic sensibility was shaped by her experiences in street culture—particularly skateboarding—and her deep, sensory connection with nature. Her work spans various media, including painting, sculpture, and installation, all characterized by an organic rhythm and fluidity.

Her signature visual language, known as the “AHHI Pattern,” is composed of a dynamic structure of curves, dots, and lines arranged into seven cells. Over the past 15 years, she has continually developed and transformed this pattern, expanding it beyond the canvas into skateboards, shoes, furniture, fashion, and other everyday objects. This pattern abstractly translates unconscious emotions and flows of feeling, inviting viewers into a state of emotional resonance and immersive engagement.

Her time in Los Angeles and the awe-inspiring landscapes of the American West—such as national parks like Death Valley and the Grand Canyon—have left a profound impact on her use of color and compositional style. These sensory experiences have led to a unique visual world where the order of the city and the freedom of nature coexist. She draws directly onto surfaces with markers, without preliminary sketches, creating works that embody spontaneity and the focused tension of the moment.
