The Energy of a Moment

37-39 Clinton St NEW YORK

ABOUT

New York, NY- Space776 is pleased to present a two-person exhibition of selected paintings by Korean artists Dongyoung Kim and Zaim. The show is on view at Space776 Gallery New York from November 5th until December 1st, 2021.

Both artists explore the question of human existence from scientific and spiritual points of view.

“Nature carries its own persistence, a definitive ability to move forward, without loss of energy. There is a term for this in Chinese called Wu Wei. It refers both to motion and status on equal terms. It is a timeless Taoist phenomenon whereby oppositional effects define themselves in relation to one another.”

-Robert C Morgan, Art Critic

From an Eastern perspective, this phenomenon is a way of life. The quasi-geometric style of Zaim’s paintings combines art, nature, and science and explores the relation of one to another. The paintings contain a sense of motion similar that the Universe contains representing a different means of cognition that brings viewers’ associations beyond a simplistic decorative order.

Dongyoung Kim explores the relationship between God and human beings. In Embracing, 2020, the four-leaf clover on the top of the canvas represents good fortune, a force that fuels human desire and is blindly sought after. Kim’s work reminds viewers to search within themselves to find happiness, allowing fortune to become ambition alone. In Kim’s work, the four-leaf clover does not characterize the external desire, it represents the ability for each individual to seek within themselves to make good fortune. When man’s desire and God’s mind meet - a mystical wonder appears.
