________
Kim’s working process begins with the imagination of what may lie beyond those deep hues of blue. Nature is a space containing power that transcends human capabilities. When confronted with the greatness of a vast expanse that extends infinitely beyond our vision and human power, we feel a sense of wonder and fear. The artist explores the infinite possibility of color and the various senses it evokes: serene, relaxing, and sometimes intense and stimulating. Such multiplicity of viewers' experiences stems from the variety of materials and artistic mediums she uses. In her newest Origin series, canvases are filled with fragmented pieces of her previous ceramic works, while the ceramic works contain countless small blue fragments scattered on the surface like the Milky Way. Kim states: “I just moved them to a flat surface of a canvas and gave them form.” By moving between the dimensions, her works become the vessel for infinite possibilities of expression and expansion, not a container of finite space. The senses of the viewer become awakened, the energy is expressed through the language of color, and the world of nature and the universe begin its transformation into a creative endeavor. The meaning of the blue may come differently to each of us, but may you find hope and solace beyond the blue.
