_____
In the mid-2000s, Kim Hong-sik began working as a graffiti artist when he was a student at Hongik University majoring in animation. Graffiti, and foreign culture, gave him an opportunity to express his identity as a Korean artist. That time became a starting point of his art career. After years of experimenting with various materials and different graffiti styles, he came up with the concept, which was introduced in 2013. Kim Hong-Sik, who has long followed the footsteps of graffiti and developed his own style, looks at today's situation where problems and contradictions coexist in modern society, which is intertwined in a multi-layered way, and expresses them in his work. He combines graffiti art principles of "breaking rules" and traditional Korean techniques such as lacquer and traditional painting techniques and shelling with issues from the modern era of capitalism.
